A Book of Shadows

Every month the moon cycles through multiple phases. Just as we change day to day and week to week, so does the moon. And with each phase we feel differently. Have you ever thought to track this?

Try keeping a Moon Journal. Do this a few times a week. Write down at least a few phrases or paragraphs describing how you’re feeling in general and especially inwardly and towards yourself. And include what phase the moon is in so that you can begin to understand and note how the moon affects you.

You may notice after doing this a while, that you feel much better during the waxing phase. Or maybe you feel most confident when the moon is dark. No matter what the pattern for you winds up being, you will then have the awareness of knowing what times of the month are best for you and when you’re more challenged.

With this kind of insight you can make plans for certain things at times that are more optimal for you. And during the tricky periods, you can be aware that you may want to use those times to work on soothing and bringing more love and compassion to yourself.

And because Mondays are ruled by the Moon, try burning a white or silver candle every Monday as a thank you offering for these insights. You can also mix together: frankincense, myrrh, sandalwood, willow, and mugwort and burn it as both a personal empowerment and an additional offering to the Moon 🌖

The final harvest is in front of us and we are making our way into the darkest time of the year (here in the northern hemisphere) it is the time of rest, good food, reflection, and appreciation.

Gratitude is something that all of us can focus on more. There is literally no downside to it! It only makes us feel better and brings about a flow of positive energy and joy.

So why not do more with it? Laziness, or maybe wondering “why bother”. The answer is simple- WHY NOT?!

It cost nothing and gives all.

Try this. It’s something I have been doing consistently in recent months and it’s become a regular practice that feels really good inside. And that is worth it.

Every night as you rest in bed and wait for sleep to come…say in your mind or out loud: “ I AM SO GRATEFUL FOR ALL THE BLESSINGS IN MY LIFE, BOTH THE BIG AND THE SMALL”.

Then spend a few minutes thinking of things that you are appreciative of. Could be anything. Even the smallest things matter. Ponder them. Picture them. FEEL THEM.

When we fall asleep with this kind of focus and vibration, it makes magic happen😍

If you like burning herbs~ grind some up in your mortar and pestle and then burn this blend whenever you want to send out an offering of gratitude 💜

Samhain draws near and we are called to honor our dead. Ancestor veneration is the backbone of this sacred time of year and we must always remember that without their sacrifices and lives we would not be here.

Set up a special altar for them. You can place items like:

-photos of loved ones

-a clean glass of water (change it daily)

-family memorabilia

-fresh flowers

-a white candle

-foods that they enjoyed

Light the candle either daily or weekly, depending on your preference and schedule. Light (if you can) an incense as an offering to them. Rosemary is perfect, or even lilac or cypress—all three are used to honor those who have passed.

Talk to them. Speak from the heart. Call out the names of those you knew and even those you didn’t but maybe know of. You can carve their names in the candle as a way to show them your love. Invite them into your home, and most importantly, let them know they are welcomed, loved, appreciated and REMEMBERED.
